National Youth Science Summer Camp

The New Mexico Academy of Science is pleased to announce that Wonu Choe and Soukya Chimmalagi have been selected to represent New Mexico at the 2023 National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp).  Two students from each state, Washington D.C., and select countries are invited to attend the all-expenses-paid program during Summer 2023.  Delegates are selected through a competitive application process.  Choe and Chimmalagi are both Juniors at the Albuquerque Institute of Math and Science.

In its 60th year, NYSCamp is a residential science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) program held in the eastern mountains of West Virginia.  Camp is designed to honor and challenge some of the nation’s rising STEAM leaders and provide them with opportunities to engage with STEAM professionals while participating in exciting outdoor activities.  After pivoting to virtual camp for 2020-2022 due to the pandemic, the National Youth Science Academy is excited to welcome students back to an in-person camp experience for 2023.

Support from the National Youth Science Academy (www.nysacademy.org) – formerly the National Youth Science Foundation – allows delegates to attend the NYSCamp program free of charge.  For more information about the program, visit http://www.nyscamp.org or contact the NM State Selection Coordinator, Margaret Showalter at nysc@nmas.org.
